Genzyme Diagnostic General Info OSMO strep a test is intended for the detection of Group A Strep antigen from throat swab. Specimen Collection and Preparation Use the sterile rayon swabs supplied with the kits. Do NOT use cotton tips or wooden shafts. Limitations A negative result may be obtained if the specimen is inadequate or antigen concentration is below the sensitivity of the test. Therefore if a patient is suspected of having GAS pharyngitis and has a negative Rapid Strep Test a culture is recommended to confirm GAS is not the cause. Sensitivity and Specificity This test carries a SENSITIVITY of 96% and a SPECIFICITY of 97.8% |

A valid positive test occurs if there is a + red control line showing the test performed properly and the blue test result is present. It is acceptable for a blue hue to be noted behind the results.
Negative
A + red control line showing the test performed properly and no blue test results line present suggest a negative test result.
Invalid
If no red control line appears the test is considered invalid. Repeat the test using a new specimen and test kit. |
